Traffic
Exchanges
A traffic exchange is a website
which is devoted to enabling webmasters to generate traffic to their
site by surfing other websites in exchange.
The procedure is this:
- Just put "traffic exchanges" into Google (or check
the list at the bottom of this article) and you will find more than
enough to keep you happy.
- Join up with as many sites as you wish. It is a
simple matter of filling in an online form with your details, and
waiting for a confirmation email from the exchange. Upon receipt of the
confirmation email, click the confirmation link, and you should be
taken to a page that will show you your traffic exchange membership
details.
- Take note of your surf URL (the URL that you need to
click in order to start surfing other websites). When you click on this
URL, a special traffic exchange window will open and another member's
website will appear on your screen. If you are interested in what the
site has to offer you can interact with it in the normal manner. After
about thirty seconds (this varies slightly from one traffic exchange to
another) you will be informed that you have received credit for viewing
this website, and you can click a link which takes you to the next
site. This procedure repeats itself until you wish to stop surfing.
- The amount of credit that you receive varies from one
traffic exchange to another, but it is typical that you receive it in
the ratio of 2:1. This means that for every two occasions on which you
get credit for viewing another website, your site will be viewed by
someone else on one occasion.
- Also take note of your referral URL (which you use to
refer others to the traffic exchange). If someone else joins from your
referral link, then you will earn credits as a result of their surfing
efforts as well.
If
you have more than one website that you wish to promote through the
traffic exchanges, then a Website Rotator is what you will need. When
you sign up with a rotator, you are able to enter a number of URLs (the
number will vary from rotator to rotator), and have them rotate so that
they are all promoted in turn.
Finally,
it should be noted that traffic exchanges should not be used to
encourage clicking of adsense advertisements. Google takes a dim view
of such activity
